Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) August 15, 2012 - We all know how important a good night's sleep is. Getting the recommended amount of sleep is hard enough without being kept awake at night be someone's snoring. Sleep specialist Dr. Tiffany Walker says she has the cure to most cases of snoring and other conditions from joint pain to trouble concentrating.

Dr. Walker works at SleepCenter in Boston. Her work has her helping an array of patients, including insomniacs, snorers, sleep walkers, and more. "A sleeping condition is more serious than we usually give it credit. Anything that interferes with our ability to get the proper amount of quality sleep becomes a huge problem very quickly. Sometimes patients come in who are sleeping the correct number of hours each night, but they are not waking rested. This is because something is preventing them from getting down into the deep REM sleep that our bodies need each night. The quality of sleep we get at night completely decides how our day will go, and no one has to suffer through a day without the energy and alertness of being well rested."

After working with patients suffering from an expanse to sleep issues, Dr. Walker has become certain of an ongoing trend. The culprit of many cases is something that seems too obvious, the mattress you sleep on. "Everyone comes up with complex, often outlandish explanations for their problems sleeping. Sometimes it's an easy fix." Dr. Walker has prescribed a new mattress just as she prescribes sleep medications.

"The bedroom is usually filled with distractions," Walker explains. "Televisions, the glow from a radio alarm clock, that pile of papers you brought home from work. Your mattress shouldn't be another distraction. Uncomfortable box springs always keep people awake, tossing and turning. I've found that a lot of my patients benefit from trading in their box spring for a memory foam mattress. They support the contours of the body and keep you from having to change positions to get comfortable.

"Memory foam material helps support the neck and joints better than any other mattress. Not only do people notice a better night's sleep right away, but over time it helps alleviate and prevent pain in the neck, back, and muscles. Taking sleep aids or pain relievers are a short-term fix to a problem that can be solved more simply and without having to introduce foreign drugs to your system.

"The world would be a better place if everyone was getting enough sleep, or even if everyone had a memory foam mattress."
