Shanghai, China (prHWY.com) August 15, 2012 - (CRI-report)Same with road, air and pipeline transportation, the revenue of railway transportation is produced through the displacement of passengers and cargos. However, characterized by long haul distance, strong continuity, intensive scale and so on, railway transportation tightly combines the nation with the national economy and the space separation of vast geographic area for the integrity and relation between nation and national economy is broken through. No matter the cross-regional long-distance passenger transport, medium-distance passenger transport between cities or the short-distance peripheral passenger transport around cities, railway transport meet the demand of tourists with advantages of safety, comfort, convenience and speediness.

In 2011, the accumulated delivery volume of national railway passengers was 1,862.26 million, with an increase of 186.17 million compared with the corresponding period in last year, increasing by 11.1%. The passenger turnover was accumulatively 961.229 million person-kilometers, with a rise of 85.012 billion person-kilometers over last year, up by 9.7%.The total cargo transport volume was 3,932.63 million ton, increasing by 289.92 million tons, with a rise of 8.0%. The total turnover of national cargo transport was 2,946.579 billion ton kilometers, rising by 182.165 billion tons over last year, with an increase of 6.6%.

The "12th Five-Year" is the accelerating promotion period of railway transport construction. At the end of "12th Five-Year", the railway operation mileage in the nation will increase from 91 thousand kilometers to 120 thousand kilometers. It is expected that by 2015, the passenger transport volume of national railway will reach 3 billion and the freight volume will amount to 4.8 billion tons, respectively rising by 78.6% and 32.2% compared with that in 2010.

However, as for the passenger transport market with the population of 1.3 billion in China, the competition in railway, road and civil aviation passenger transport is more intense. Analyzed by the current situation of passenger transport of China's railway, in order to realize the increase of transport volume and revenue, railway transportation must develop and stabilize medium and long-distance passenger transport market and positively open up the short-distance passenger market. Moreover, the primary competitor of railway transport is road transport, followed by air transport. As a result, to stabilize and open up market, railway transport must maintain the leading position in strategic group, insist the reform direction and fully play the industrial attraction. Meanwhile, it ought to develop new transport products and provides customer approval value higher than that of road and air transport.
