Mumbai, India (prHWY.com) August 17, 2012 - Mumbai - India is emerging as a technology hub with its expertise in telecommunications, electronics, manufacturing, automotive and ancillary segments. Today many of the industrial segments require precision and quick turnaround of their process. This process can be accelerated by modern technologies. One of the most efficient ones is the laser and photonics technology, owing to tremendous power, flexibility, speed and quality of execution.
Commenting on the importance of lasers & photonics, Mr. Darryl Dasilva, CEO, MMI India, said: "The main objective of LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA is to develop and grow diverse industrial applications in India with the use of laser technology, boost the awareness for the laser and photonics technology, deliver important impetus for Indian research institutes and universities in photonics as well as interlink the research sector and industry for the development of the technology."
The applications of photonics can be found in almost every field including information communication technologies, manufacturing, lighting, automotive, security, jewellery and medical sciences to just name a few.
Dr. Lalit Kumar, Director at Laser Science Services (I) Pvt. Ltd, commented on the significance of LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA 2012: "Laser Science will showcase various scientific and industrial laser systems and allied equipments from our various principals." He also said that they consider LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA as an important platform to strengthen relations with end customers, system integrators and exhibitors.
The Laser & Photonics industry is still at a nascent stage in the country, but is known to be a contributor in generating approximately USD 500 million every year in related application sectors. But thanks to a mushrooming telecommunications & manufacturing sector, many believe that photonics will play a vital role in India's future development.
Mr. Bala Sahane, Owner at Laser Asia, reckons that the industry for Laser and applications is maturing slowly and that people are now looking for new technologies and processes which will give them a benefit of the global front.
Laser in the Automotive Industry
India has been progressively growing as global automation hub primarily on account of labour as well as easy availability of technology. Most global automakers that have major industrial production bases in India are aware of the advantages of the laser welding process in the automotive sector. This is mainly due to the high productivity and small amount of down-time compared to the other forms of welding systems. In the automotive industry, high power laser welding installations consist of cross flow CO2 lasers in the power range of 3 kW to 5 kW which

leads to particle-free working, stress-free energy input, highest aesthetic quality and high flexibility. Unlike other welding techniques that require a vacuum, laser welding transmits a beam through the air. This process can be easily automated using robotic techniques. There is no radiation by the process and it provides higher quality welds.
Mr. Indrajit Rana, Marketing Manager of TRUMPF, said: "With the high potential in India for specific laser applications, the laser technology field is set to grow steadily over the years to come. TRUMPF offers to its customers laser technologies like CO2 lasers, solid state lasers, 3D Laser processing and marking lasers for cutting, welding, marking and surface treatment."
Photonics in Telecommunications
Optical communication is an area that is going to drive the Indian economy. Growing rapidly as the world's largest consumer in telecommunications and related devices, India has massive potential for extensive growth in this sector for both general communication as well as broadband services. Recently, the government has also recognized the potential of optical communication and reduced some of its controls on foreign trade and investment. By permitting higher limits on foreign direct investment in a few key areas, such as telecommunications, the government has helped strengthen this sector.
Owing to this change in stance, photonic technologies today form the technological backbone of the Indian telecommunications sector and have helped to revolutionize the exchange of information and data flow from India.
Laser and Photonics in the realm of Manufacturing
India is now part of every global development in terms of expertise and contribution to the fields like optical fiber communications (Telecommunications), laser surgery (Medical), Industrial manufacturing (The use of lasers for welding, drilling, cutting, and various methods of surface modification), Construction (laser leveling, laser range finding, smart structures), Aviation & Military (IR sensors, command and control, navigation, search and rescue, mine laying and detection) along with Entertainment, Metrology and many other fields.

Mr. Peter Von, CEO of Raylase, expressing confidence in the LASER WORLD Of PHOTONICS INDIA 2012 and Messe München International (MMI) said, "RAYLASE will be displaying products for 3D applications. Our laser material processing software which is particularly suitable when processing 3D shapes such as tilted or curved surfaces that require flexible working areas and small focus diameters"
LASER WORLD of PHOTONICS INDIA 2012, which is a leading international trade show on Laser and Photonics Technology, will address the potential of laser and photonics applications and sectors in India. LASER WORLD of PHOTONICS INDIA 2012 will have around 100 leading global and Indian companies showcasing the most advanced laser and photonics equipments available today.

In conjunction with the trade fair, Messe München International will hold a "Seminar on Laser Basics and Applications", which gives a quick overview of laser and photonics technology for potential users from different application fields. Target group of the seminar are novices to the laser world, companies and users from different application fields that have not yet dealt with laser technology before.Among the prominent companies who are taking part in the Seminar on Laser Basics and Applications on 14th September are Sahajanand Laser Technology Ltd., Sahajanand Technologies (P) Ltd., Simco Global Technology & Systems Ltd., Laser Automation Pvt. Ltd., New Age Instrument & Materials P. Ltd., CVI Melles Griot, Ametek - Precitech, IPG Photonics (India) Pvt. Ltd., TRUMPF (India) Pvt Ltd, Marks Pryor, and more.
