What Was The Purpose Of GCCF?
It has been over two years since the Deepwater Horizon explosion, fire and oil spill that brought economic and environmental devastation to the Gulf of Mexico.

Since there was such a huge loss for so many people, a program to help the victims was started. It was called Gulf Coast Claims Facility. Gulf Coast Claims Facility is the full form. This program was set up to aid the victims in acquiring payment from BP. Victims had the right to file claims in two categories under the GCCF scheme. The two groups are economic claims and medical claims.
Any individual who was engaged in fishing business near the oil spill area could file the claims. They were required to provide evidence in paper to get the payment. It was also legal to file economic claims if any property was ruined because of the oil spill.
Victims had the right to file medical claims if they got affected by any illness after the oil spill. Those who took part in the cleanup process were also entitled to file the medical claims. Here also, victims needed to have medical records to show as evidence while filing the claims.
The Gulf Coast Claims Facility program pledged to aid the victims till the last minute. But the truth is they failed. In one moment it appeared as if the victims would not acquire anything. Hence, many of them panicked and they accepted the quick pay which was a kind of final payment. Observing the letdown, GCCF was stopped and a new program named as Deepwater horizon settlement program was launched.
