She knows that as a female in South Korea, females were not allowed to learn martial arts like males. As a culture, women and girls in Korea were not valued as highly as men and boys and her own desire to learn lead to her social rejection. However, that didn't stop Dr. Tae Yun Kim from learning as much as she could and mastering her art.

Dr. Tae Yun Kim knows the benefits of living a healthy and active lifestyle. All around the world the benefits of a healthy lifestyle are promoted and the detriment that a poor diet and sedentary lifestyle can be found. Physical activity is encouraged and people need to find an activity that they can do repeatedly and enjoy. For Dr. Tae Yun Kim that physical activity is martial arts.

Dr. Tae Yun Kim not only loves martial arts, but also knows that it is important to teach the skills and art to future generations. That knowledge along with her business skill sets, desire to teach, and mastered skills lead her to found her own martial arts school: Jung Suwon. Times have changed in South Korea and while some customs may still be strong, girls aren't denied the training that Dr. Tae Yun Kim was when she was a young girl.

Gender prejudice aside Dr. Tae Yun Kim knows that girls can be just as successful as boys and her skill is testament to that. And as well as a master in her field, she also is a Ki energy Master as well. For those who are familiar or somewhat familiar with the Asian belief in Ki, the idea of it is not overwhelming.

Ki is the belief in a human life force. Ki is the energy that animates all living things. And that energy can be good or bad as symbolized as the Chinese symbol of Yin and Yang. For anyone who watches movies or shows based on martial arts, Ki may have been mentioned and the idea may not sound so foreign.

This energy can be used positively and Dr. Tae Yun Kim believes that negativity can be turned into positivity and create positivity in the surrounding community as well. Dr. Tae Yun Kim knows negativity can be strong, but she encourages everyone to turn their negativity into positivity. She believes everyone has power within them and when used correctly, people can make their own success.
