Unlike people, our dogs can only cool themselves through their feet and tongues. According to the Humane Society, temperatures inside cars can reach 120 degrees within a few minutes, even if the outside temperature is only 85 degrees."

Ms. Cole offered some suggestions for pet care. "Don't keep your pet in a closed car and keep them hydrated. Cool water refreshes pets just as it does humans. Like shade on a hot day? So do your pets. You might think about keeping them inside during the hottest part of the day. You may be considering shaving your pet. In many instances fur acts as an insulator, so consider the pet before you take that drastic step."
