CAT 2012 Mock Test@ Strategies to take mock tests for CAT 2012
This article of MBAUniverse.com will share with you the strategies to take mock tests with just 40 days remaining to CAT 2012.

Starting mock tests
There is no prescribed perfect timing to start taking mock tests. As soon as you finish basics of all the sections, you should start taking mock tests. The best strategy will be to start taking these tests three months prior to the D-Day. Subhashish Bhadra, CAT 2011 100 percentiler, says, "I would not be wrong if I say that mock CATs were the most important part of my preparation. You can start taking these tests as early as possible after finishing the basics." For those who have just started preparation, the strategy will be to complete the basics as soon as possible and start taking mock tests.
Frequency
At this stage, taking a full-length mock test every alternate day is the suggested strategy. In between, you can analyze your performance. If you feel that you need to study more or if the analysis shows that you lack conceptual clarity, you may take mock tests twice a week. "You don't need to take tests every day. Two mock tests in a week are sufficient. Utilize the days in between to analyze them," says Gautam Puri, vice-chairman, Career Launcher.
But if you have completed basic preparation and have proper conceptual understanding, practice is the only way to improve your final scores.
Analysis
Analysis is the most important part of taking mock tests. Unless you analyze your mock tests, no matter how many tests you take, it won't bear any fruit. Make sure that you get your mock tests analyzed by a good mentor. Maintain a log of the analysis. Check the type of mistakes you have committed. If it is a silly mistake, you need to practise more and work on your accuracy. But if the mistake is a conceptual one, you need to utilize more time in clarifying your concepts.
B Sekhar Anand, 99.99 percentile in CAT 2011 and an IIM Ahmedabad student, said, "I constantly analyzed the mistakes I had made, and was always conscious of them while taking the next test. This helped me both understand the concepts better and reduce my mistakes."
Full-length vs. sectional mock tests
At this stage, taking full-length mock test is the better option. As the D-Day is approaching, you should make yourself more familiar to the pattern of taking the exam within stipulated time. But if you are weak in a particular section, taking sectional mock tests will help. "To work on your weak areas, you should take regular sectional mock tests. Now that only 40 days are left for CAT 2012, you should take full-length mock tests along with sectional ones," says Abhishek Gupta, academic head, Career Launcher.
