Florida Keys to be Used as Collateral for Unpaid Debt
People who don't pay their bills know what it feels like to have the looming threat of the repo man hanging over their heads. For the first time in United States history the government and the entire nation might know what it feels like.

The United States is estimated to be in almost three billion dollars in debt. Some of that debt is owed to foreign countries. Rarely do foreign countries come calling, but with the United States falling further into debt they may just hire a repo man.
"We are in the process of working with a repo company to figure out how to settle some of this debt", said an anonymous spokesperson for a foreign country the United States is in debt too. "We are thinking that a fair compensation would be a possible exchange of the Florida Keys but at this moment I am not at liberty to discuss what we would like to do at this time."
Land was often exchanged in lieu of debt many centuries ago. Farmers and land owners would exchange land instead of money or other items. Land hasn't been used as this type of monetary currency in hundreds of years.
"We have tried collecting but nothing seems to be working", said the anonymous source. "Drastic times call for drastic measures. That is what my clients are resorting to at this moment."
The United States upon hearing this rumor has hired an international debt consolidation firm to help them get out of trouble. This firm will work with several of the countries to try to negotiate a sum of money that would be agreeable between the two parties.
"Our goal is to try to come to some type of compromise so the United States does not lose the Florida Keys", said a spokesperson for the firm. "The Florida Keys bring in a lot of money to both the local and national economy. The last thing we want to do is lose it because of some silly misunderstanding. Hopefully we can come to an agreement."
When a reporter asked a spokesperson for the president about this situation it was met with some skepticism. The spokesperson made a quick joke regarding the matter and moved on to other questions.
"I think they are trying to cover up this mistake, but I think it's real", said United States historian, Todd Green. "However, I do think the firm they hired can help and we won't lose the Florida Keys but it should be a wakeup call to the country. Get out of debt!"
