The 21-day CAT 2012 test window is spread between October 11 and November 6. Though most of the CAT takers have selected middle or end slots, a number of them have opted for the opening slot as well.

Revamp your time table and follow it diligently: If you are studying or working, take a break till the D-Day. Spend more time in study depending on your preparation level. Divide the study hours into two equal parts. Keep one part for concept building for weak areas and practicing questions and the other half for strong areas. Take mocks and analyze them in this part.

Don't start a new topic now: It is not a very good idea to start a new topic at this moment. If you have not touched a particular area till now, don't start from the basics unless it is one of the most important or weighed areas.

Don't leave out important topics: Though it is not a high time to start a new topic, you should also not leave out topics of high importance. For this, you must go through previous years' analysis and find out how much weightage is given on a particular topic. For example, arithmetic, number systems, algebra and geometry are the most important topics in the quantitative ability area. So if you are weak in any one of these areas, you must not shun it completely. It is better to have the basic idea at least and practice the common types of questions.

Strategy for QA & DI: The first section of the examination is quantitative ability & data interpretation. Both the areas require practice and accuracy. Practice as much questions from diverse varieties as possible. The more you practice, the more well acquainted you would be for various types of questions. For the data interpretation section, grow a habit of analyzing.

Strategy for VA & LR: For this section, the best strategy is to read. Read as much as you can. This will not only improve your comprehension skills but hone your vocabulary and grammar skills as well. For logical reasoning, you need to read between the lines. Read carefully to understand the caselets or puzzles. It may appear easy but you should not go for the obvious choice. Think hard and select the right answer.

Take regular mocks & analyze: The mock test is the keyword in preparation for CAT or any MBA entrance exam. Now that there is just a month left, you have to make it more regular and rigorous. More importantly, you should give equal time for analyzing your answers. After the analysis, include the learning in your preparation and apply them in the next mock test you take.
Manage your strengths & weaknesses: Spend more time for weak areas and make your time table accordingly. Spend time on the conceptual clarity of weak areas. On the other hand, practice diverse type of questions in areas where you are strong.

Focus on improving scores: The advantage of taking mock tests is that you get well acquainted with the patterns of the questions and know the methods which will help you solve a question in a quicker and more accurate manner. So focus more on finding out the methods of scoring high.

Decide the test-taking strategy: The good thing about the new pattern of CAT is that the sections are already divided according to time and you don't have to work very hard towards time management. But what you can decide in this one month is the number of questions to attempt from each of the areas, allotment of time per question, etc.
Keep your cool: Don't get tensed for the sake of cracking CAT. It is important to have a good score in order to study in one of the coveted B-schools, but CAT is not the end of the world. Give your best shot during the remaining time and keep your cool.
