CAT Preparation Tips@ 25 days to CAT: Few tips for working professionals
This article of MBAUniverse.com shares some tips on the preparation strategies for CAT and other MBA entrance exams for working executives.

Work experience is a boon for MBA aspirants as it adds value to the profile and increases the chances of getting admitted to a top B-School. There are several toppers who cracked CAT with ease while pursuing jobs. If you keep in mind the following points, your task will be easy.
Set your time table according to working hours: Prepare a time table which you will be able to follow. If you have regular office hours, utilize the evenings, and if you work at night, devote the mornings and the day time for study. "It is important to follow the time table (that is divided on the basis of units/chapters/subjects) systematically rather than spending time in a haphazard manner. Figure out the most productive time of your day and plan study hours accordingly. Study with a fresh mind and take regular breaks so that you can retain what you have learned. Short study sessions with high concentration level helped me," says Siddhant Gupta, 98.67 percentier in CAT 2011 and an IIM Indore student. He worked in HEG for a year prior to joining the B-School.
Take regular mock tests: You may be facing a lot of stress both from work as well as on the preparation front catching up to conceptual learning and practice. But you must not compromise with mock tests. Mock tests are something that can give you the entire picture of your preparation and suggest you how to move forward. Now that only 25 days are left for CAT 2012, you must take two-three full-length and simulated mock tests per week. "My CAT preparation strategy included solving a couple of previous years' papers and realizing the areas of strengths and weaknesses," says Ajinkya Deshmukh, 100 percentiler in CAT 2011 and an IIM Bangalore student. Ajinkya worked in Credit Suisse Business Analytics (India) Pvt. Ltd for two years prior to joining the MBA bandwagon.
Utilize weekends: Utilize weekends to the core. Sacrifice enjoyments till the exam is over. If you are getting two-day breaks, you may take a test on Saturday and analyze it on Sunday or vice versa. You can follow the strategy shared by Ajinkya -- "The simple strategy was to solve one test daily, be it part test, chapter test or a full-time test and work on one area of improvement over the weekend." You may join a weekend program at an MBA coaching institute or enroll with their weekend test series.
Make the most of break hours in office: It is not possible to work throughout the office hours. You must be taking some break. Even if it is for an hour or half, make the most of it by going through a word list or solving puzzles. These will enhance your verbal ability and sharpen logical reasoning skills.
Keep a watch on fellow CAT takers: CAT or the other MBA entrance exams are after all a competitive exam where your score is derived on the basis of where your performance stands compared with fellow test takers. So, make it a point to interact with other CAT takers, share strategies and know where you stand compared to them. This will help you decide your tactics and strategies. The more you share, the more you gain.
