FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Music in Chappaqua Offers YoYa, Yoga for the Voice
Chappaqua, New York (September 11, 2012) In today's hectic world, we all strive to be heard. Our vocal chords are among our most important muscles, yet most of us do not give them the attention they deserve. Bengi Tasci, a lyric coloratura soprano and vocal instructor at Music in Chappaqua, one of Westchester's premiere music schools, has developed YoYa, yoga for the voice, to strengthen and exercise the vocal cords for students at any age. Tasci has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera as a soloist and is the winner of several prestigious competitions.
YoYa is based on the specific vocal exercises that help students find the true color of their singing voice. It also improves confidence, and can help professional public speakers. It is a vocal conditioning and strengthening technique that shares the principles of yoga. The name is derived from the syllables Yo and Ya, which are used frequently during the exercises. Tasci believes that specific postures for the vocal chords, like those in yoga, provide the muscle training needed to keep the vocal chords youthful.
"No voice is exactly the same - it's like a fingerprint," says Tasci. By releasing tension and aligning the vocal chords with the body, each student finds his or her own true sound. "We train the voice in the same way we go to the gym or practice yoga postures," Tasci says. "Our voice is a channel to express our thoughts and feelings. The healthier this tool is, the better our message can come across."
Tasci believes that when students are able to read and excited to learn new songs, they are ready to start YoYa. During the training students can have fun while learning to treat their voice (vocal cords and the supporting muscles and organs) just like any other muscle in the body. Once their voice starts to get stronger, students gain self-confidence and develop their personal and artistic development . "I want everyone to find his or her true sound, that's my passion," says Tasci.
Music in Chappaqua began in 1993 and now boasts more than 250 students studying a wide variety of different instruments in all age groups. Janet Angier, director of Music in Chappaqua, hires the most qualified instructors who are also outstanding, caring teachers. Each studio is equipped with the best Steinway & Sons grand piano and the latest computer hardware and software, all designed to enhance the learning process.
