Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) September 20, 2012 - Wedding umbrellas have taken on a whole new artistic meaning. A local Seattle artist has come up with a way to create bright, colorful murals that use vibrantly colored wedding umbrellas as the main element of the portrait.

"It takes a lot of pre-planning and creative thinking", explained Dan Gallows. "I spend a good two weeks planning out what I want the mural to look like on a piece of grid paper. When I finally get what I want the picture to look like then I can bring it to life."

There is a lot of pre-planning that goes into creating one of these pictures. Dan Gallows must first create the mural on a piece of paper then he need to get the umbrellas to create the photo. Not all umbrellas come in the colors or shades he needs, which require him to spend hours dying hundreds of umbrellas.

"We can spend anywhere from three to five days dying umbrellas", explained Gallows. "If we don't have a color that we need, we need to make it. It is exhausting, but at the same time it's kind of fun."

Dan Gallows takes the mural he created on the grid paper and brings it to life. Bringing the wedding umbrella based mural to life takes the help of hundreds of individuals, a tall building and several assistants.

"We have everyone group together on the group", explains Dan Gallows. "I direct the assistants using a radio and they move the people into place so it looks like the picture I've created. It can take hours to get the look right but when it's finished it really is a work of art."

Some of Dan Gallows work has been featured in some of the nation's most well-known art museums. Recently, his wedding umbrella inspired art exhibit made a trip around the United States with some stops in Canada.

"People are just fascinated with what you can do with these umbrellas", said Dan Gallows. "Some people don't even realize it's umbrellas in the picture it's that tastefully done. It really is amazing and kind of awe-inspiring."

There is talk that the First Lady may be showing some interest in making one of his murals a part of the White House.

"My agent is in works with the White House to create a mural that will be placed in one of the hallways", said Gallows. "It really is an honor to think that my photographs and creations could be a part of national history."
