Singing in the Shower Takes on New Meaning for Senior Project at Music Production School

Singing in the shower has always been a favorite pastime of many people. While many people engage in this hobby while showering very few actually know what they sound like when they are singing.

Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) September 25, 2012 - Singing in the shower has always been a favorite pastime of many people. While many people engage in this hobby while showering very few actually know what they sound like when they are singing. This revelation has led a music production school in Iowa to come up with a cool senior project - making a recording of various people singing in the shower.

"We discovered that some of the best singers are the ones who don't know they are good", said Nina Summers, a senior at Record a Lot Music Production School. "These people just happen to be the same ones that tend to sing in the shower."

The senior project involves the students placing tiny audio recording devices in people's showers. These devices will record the songs that they sing while in the shower. When the recording is done, the students will take the raw recordings and create a mixed record out of them.

"The fun part will be taking the raw recordings and making a mixed medley of the songs", said Thom Sanders. "There are lots of recording techniques that we've learned at the music production school that we will have to use to create this recording."

The students will have to learn how to cut and mix various recordings. They will have to learn sound damping skills and they will have to learn how to produce a final recorded mix of songs. All of these are skills the students are required to learn before they can graduate from any of the Record a Lot Music Production Schools.

"I have seen many senior projects in my day", said Tad Richards, a teacher and senior student advisor at the school. "None of the projects I have seen have been this creative. I'm sure the final outcome will be amazing and who knows it could lead to something that people are trending about online."

The students have so far recorded over 80 hours of people singing in the shower. Some of the songs have been amazing and almost sound like professional singers. However, some of the songs have been as far away from professional singing as people can get.

"We had one individual who really thought that she could sing", said Sanders. "She couldn't. No matter how hard we tried to mix the sounds and work with it in the studio it just came out terrible. I felt so bad too because this lady sang with her soul, but it just sounded bad."
