Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) September 25, 2012 - John Sinclair knew he needed a new car. Like a great deal of other people, however, he didn't have a plump savings account with enough money in it to pay for his new car. Besides needing a new car, John also had another little problem.

When it came to clothes, he liked them a lot. The type of clothes John liked were particular ones. He liked expensive brand name clothing. While looking through his favorite clothing line at the mall one recent day, John had a great idea. He decided he would shop at thrift stores and save the difference in what he spent at the thrift store when compared to what he would normally spend on clothes from the mall. He would use that money to buy a new car.

"It really started off as a kind of joke between my brother and I," remembers John. "Jack, my brother, jokingly told me I would be able to buy the new car of my choice if only I was more frugal in my clothing choices. I took that statement as a challenger and decided to add up the difference between the clothes I bought at the mall and those that I bought at my local thrift store."

John expected to save a few pennies here, and a nickel or quarter there. He expected to be able to show Jack how ludicrous his suggestion was and point out that he, John, would never have enough money to buy a new car simply by shopping for his favorite name brand clothes at the thrift store.

Instead, John began to see the money roll in. He made several trips each week to his favorite thrift stores in his city. After finding the clothes he wanted, John would come home and find out how much the manufacturer was charging for the same exact items. The differences were astounding.

"The money I saved was at least $3 or $4 for each item. On some of the items of clothing, such as my favorite pair of jeans, I saved even more money. My greatest savings was $38. on a sports jacket that was in perfect condition with the tags still on it.," marvels John. "I went home and researched it. At that time, I realized that I had purchased a $50 jacket for only $12."

John put the money he saved in an old pickle jar. He soon had enough money to plunk down a wad of cash on the counter at the car dealership before driving away in his favorite car.
