Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) September 26, 2012 - Some people collect glass figurines, others collect baseball cards or sports memorabilia. One man in a small town outside of Columbus, Ohio is making it his goal to collect every single edition of the Ohio State yearbook.

"I just have a huge fascination with Ohio State", said Todd Smith. "I graduated from there in 1982 and I want to show my pride for my school. I started collecting sports memorabilia from the school and I realized how cool it would be to own a complete collection of yearbooks from Ohio State."

John Smith started his collection with 4 yearbooks. One for each year he attended school at the college. He quickly started to try to collect other editions of the yearbook.

"I put ads up on Craigslist, I posted on the alumni board and even asked friends and family members to keep an eye out for these yearbooks", said Smith. "The search has been fairly fun."

John Smith to date has collected over 45 different yearbooks from Ohio State. It is rumored that there could be over 300 different yearbooks that he'll need to try and collect.

"The older editions of the yearbooks are going to be the tough ones to find", said Smith. "I will have to hope I can find them at thrift stores or garage sales or something. I'm sure I will find some, but there's no guarantee I will find them."

John Smith has found some yearbooks in some unusual places. He found a set of yearbooks out in the garbage behind a used bookstore. He found a set at an estate sale and he even found one of the first yearbooks for the school at an auction house in Cleveland, Ohio.

"These yearbooks are just popping up everywhere", said John Smith. "I really have no idea where or when I'll find the next one. That is what is making it so fun."

Recently, John Smith was contacted by a grandchild of one of the first editors of the yearbook. This individual had over 10 copies of old yearbooks that her grandfather was saving from his time as an editor.

"When I saw John's ad on Craigslist I knew I had to give him the yearbooks", said Sally Smiles. "I just knew he'd love the yearbooks more than I ever could. They were just sitting there collecting dust. Now they can be a part of his unique collection."
