Our new songeist.com founder artist Steph Chou released her first jazz album, Prime Knot, in 2011 which features Marcus Printup (Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra) on trumpet. The album showcases her compositions which incorporate her diverse range of influences including classical and Chinese music, jazz and contemporary vocals. Our songeist.com pre- launch promo music website features an audio sample of her piece ""Jasmine Flower Wild Knot". You can listen to her new music directly on the music website. Steph took her quintet to New York's Carnegie hall where they performed a selection of her new music compositions. She has played at countless other amazing New York venues including the Lincoln Center, the Knitting Factory, The Shea Stadium, and BB King's Miller Theater, sharing the stage with jazz greats like Steve Wilson, Bobby Watson, and Paul Bollenback. Steph won Columbia's Rapaport Prize for Music two years in a row. She combined her passion for music and her love of maths for her final research project on geometric cord theory, a theme that she often refers back to in her compositions. She has taken her music as far afield as China where she became involved with the emerging Beijing jazz scene, exchanging ideas and new music with local musicians. Her passion for sharing and exploring new music with others is part of what makes her perfect as a founder artist of our new Songeist.com music community. We want our site to be a place where new artists can meet each other and their listeners and engage in lively conversations that will encourage new and exciting collaborations that foster diversity, eclecticism and originality. We are so glad to have Steph Chou on board as a founding artist on our Songeist.com music website.
