BROOKLYN, NY--March 14, 2011

One local business is raising the bar on a federal initiative designed to conserve water by offering free water leak detection for the entire month of March.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has declared this week Fix a Leak Week - the third consecutive year for the "green" initiative that encourages Americans to save water by addressing issues with household plumbing but.

But, Petri Plumbing and Heating is taking the EPA's challenge one step further by offering customers a FREE leak detection inspection during the entire month of March. Mike Petri, owner of the water-tight business and New York City's first "green" plumber, says it's the right thing to do for his business that was started by his grandfather 105 years ago.

"We are the first licensed green plumbers in New York City and we strive to raise the bar on green plumbing and heating services throughout Brooklyn and its surrounding boroughs," says Petri. "Our mission is to provide the very best possible service, the most highly trained, professional staff, and the most environmentally friendly products available."

Leaks not only cost the environment by wasting precious water, they also cost the consumer who is literally paying to send good water down the drain. Saving water makes good "green" sense for the environment - and the wallet.

Sources of leaks include toilet tanks, where silent leaks can lurk; balky faucets where washers and seals may be worn and in need of maintenance; washing machine and dishwasher connections where washers or even cracked hoses can cause water to leak. Showers and sink faucets can also benefit from aerators and low-flow attachments designed to increase water conservation.

"We are certified by Green Plumbers USA and are Green Screened certified so we can best protect the integrity of the environment we live in. In addition, we are an EPA-approved Water Sense Partner which enables us to bring you the most advanced State of the Art plumbing fixtures," Petri adds.

WaterSense, a partnership program sponsored by EPA, seeks to protect the future of our nation's water supply by offering people simple ways to use less water. Since the program's inception in 2006, WaterSense has helped consumers save a cumulative 46 billion gallons of water and $343 million in water and sewer bills.
