Autumn colours signal time to book Niseko accommodation
THERE is no surer sign that another winter in Niseko is just around the corner than the mountains coming alive with the colours of autumn.

Powderlife.com marketing director Alastair Loxton said he expected the first snowfall of the season to dust the peaks of the highest mountains in Niseko any day now.
"The days are getting colder and shorter and Niseko locals can expect to look up at Mt Yotei any day now and see the hatsuyuki (first snow)," Mr Loxton said.
"You know when you see the first snowfall it's time to get excited about winter."
Mr Loxton said Niseko had just experienced two of the best winters in recent memory, and anyone hoping to go this winter should book their accommodation now.
"On the back of the past two seasons, Niseko accommodation bookings are very strong this year," he said.
"Especially in the peak periods for accommodation, Niseko is filling up fast.
"Anyone hoping to get the accommodation they want in Niseko, especially during the Christmas/New Year period into January and around Chinese New Year, should book now."
Mr Loxton said Powderlife.com offered a filterable Niseko accommodation search that displayed the rates and availability of hundreds of properties.
"This year visitors to Powderlife.com can browse the rates and availability of more than 200 Niseko accommodation properties in one place," Mr Loxton said.
"The search engine offers everything from a single bunk in a backpackers hostel, to a dozen beds in a multi-million-dollar ski chalet.
"Property listings on the website provide detailed descriptions, photos, and more than 450 reviews from past guests.
"Niseko offers all sorts of accommodation options for any ski group - singles, couples, families and groups on any budget - and they're all available on Powderlife.com."
While there are a number of older Niseko hotels, Mr Loxton said visitors were spoiled with choice when it came to accommodation options these days.
"Niseko is one of the hottest ski destinations in the world right now and developers have been busy building all sorts of properties to cater for the demand," he said.
"If you're a snowboard bum on a bootstring budget, there are several backpackers hostels in Niseko, as well as pensions that will keep you warm overnight and allow you to spend your savings on ski lessons or mountain guides.
"If you're on a family budget you'll find something too - large three bedroom apartments or one of dozens of older houses will give you the Niseko experience without a massive accommodation bill.
"Groups of adults and those with a bit more cash to splash will have a field day - there are so many new and near-new luxury Niseko ski chalets and apartments you are sure to find what you're looking for."
