Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) October 15, 2012 - Seattle is considered one of the most progressive states in terms of trying to develop new eco-friendly technologies. Many homes have solar panel windows, use bio-diesel fuel in generators and buses, and recycle anything that can be recycled. This progressive nature is what sparked Samuel Kingston, owner of a local Seattle heating and cooling company to develop an eco-friendly heater.

"People often don't think of Seattle as getting cold", explained Kingston. "They just think it rains and rains and rains here, but it doesn't. The winter temperatures can get extremely cold, which is why all homes need a working heater. The problem is most people don't want to run a heater because it isn't environmentally safe. That is where I come in."

Heaters often operate off of electricity or gas. Kingston worked to keep the design of the heater the same, but use a new eco-friendly source of fuel. The source of fuel that Kingston has relied upon to heat homes across Seattle may be surprising.

"I tried using solar panels, but it was hard to get enough direct sunlight during the winter", explained Kingston. "So I had to find something else. That was when I thought I'd try something that almost every home and building in Seattle has a problem with - moss."

Moss tends to be an extreme problem for people in Seattle. It grows on fences, on the ground and in the trees. Kingston developed a heating system that can operate solely by burning moss. The moss when it burns does not cause harmful fumes to enter the environment.

"I thought I'd use something that was around and moss came to mind", explained Kingston. "I tried several different ways to burn the moss, but I eventually found something that worked. I was surprised at how easy it was."

The moss burning heaters have become extremely successful all across Seattle. Kingston developed 20 models, as he didn't have any idea how successful or popular it was going to become. The 20 models sold out within a week. There is a back order for 40 more units.

"I didn't used to run my heater during the winter for fear it's cost me thousands of dollars", explained Debbi Hill. "This new heating unit allows me to heat my entire household without worrying about the cost. All I have to do is collect the moss or purchase it from a vendor and I have something that will help me heat my house."
