Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) October 15, 2012 - Space tourism is expected to really take off within the next 20 years. Companies all over the world are starting to develop products in research and development labs that can help people who wish to take part in this unique experience. Out of This World Cosmetics has started to work on a unique, yet powerful acne treatment system that will combat acne in space.

"What people don't realize is that when you travel to space your skin will really break out", explained Larry Musing, founder of Out of This World Cosmetics. "The problem with this is that traditional acne treatments won't work because of the conditions in space."

Most acne treatment systems are liquid based. The problem with liquid in space is that it can become extremely light and float away. This presents a unique problem to researchers who wish to come up with an acne treatment system for space.

"We have to develop something that will work, but that won't have the quality of liquid or even a light cream", explained cosmetics engineer, Tommy Highland. "We are working on something that will survive space, while really treating acne."

People who have traveled to space previously have reported encountering a problem with extreme acne. The development of acne in space could be contributed to a number of things. The biggest contributing factor is the lack of water in space.

"People can get extremely dehydrated in space", said Musing. "Everyone knows that dry, dull skin is extremely prone to acne breakouts. That is just one of the reasons acne is such a problem in space."

Another contributing factor is the diet people lead while in space. Most food is unable to be consumed in space. This causes people to live off of extremely unhealthy foods while in space. These foods can sometimes contribute to acne breakouts.

However, other people have a different view of why acne is such a problem.
"I have studied people who went to space for the past 20 years", said Rob Kenya, a medical researcher associated with NASA. "I think there could be a hormonal change in space; something that is connected to the loss of gravity. Hormonal changes on Earth cause acne, so it would be logical to think the same thing would happen in space."

The acne treatment system for space is expected to be fully developed by the time the first space tourist group leaves for their trip.
