Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) October 16, 2012 - For centuries, people often believed that the first car was something that resembled an old crank machine. People would have to get out and turn the crank to make the car run, but a recent discovery shows that this might not actually have been the first car. The first car might really be classified as a golf car.

"The term golf car wasn't really used in the early 1900s," explained auto historian Jason Travis. "Due to the fact the term wasn't used back then people always assumed the first car was really a car. In reality, the first car was actually a golf car."

Golf cars look like tiny automobiles that resemble a mixture of golf cart and car. They are considered safe to drive on the road and can sometimes reach speeds of 50 miles per hour, when designed correctly.

The discovery of this first auto was made in an old barn in western Canada. A group of individuals had recently brought the property where the barn was located and they were working to clear out the junk.

"We were going through all the old stuff in the barn when we noticed this old looking car," said Chris Timmons, one of the owners of the barn. "It didn't really look like a car, but it didn't look like a golf cart or anythingsmaller. It looked like a combination of the two."

The owners of the barn contacted a local auto historian who quickly verified that the tiny golf car dated back to the early 1900s. The authentication of the car was able to be made based off of the type of tires that was used on the car.

"The tires that were used in the 1900s were extremely sturdy", explained local auto historian Jason Travis. "The tires were also made out of a different material. This was how I was able to tell when the car was made, or at least approximately when it was made."

The golf car is considered one of the first of its kind. The owners of the barn have been contacted by several auto museums wishing to display the car in their museum.

"We are thinking of maybe taking this old car out on tour", explained Timmons. "We really want to share this discovery with everyone. It really was amazing and something that everyone should have a chance to see. We'll probably start touring early next year."
