The Westwood School Extends Helping Hand To Students In Need Through Essay Contest
The Essay for Education Competition will provide up to $40,000 in scholarship funds to winner

The winner of the contest will receive a scholarship of up to $40,000 ($10,000 a year for four years) to attend the school. The competition will offer an exceptional academic opportunity to deserving students in the Dallas area.
"Our belief in community results in us giving as well as receiving - that is why we are offering the scholarships," said Tony Greenall, High School Director at The Westwood School. "Good writing is essential to all the subjects students study so they can express their ideas in a coherent manner. In these days of the sound bite, Twitter messages and blogs, we are in danger of losing the beauty of our language. Westwood is determined not to let that happen."
Essays should be approximately 500 words, and this year students have the opportunity to choose from the following prompts:
* If you could have one super power, what would it be and how would you use it?
* Besides the subjects you currently study at school, which subject would you add to the curriculum?
* Choose a member of your community and explain why they have inspired you.
* If you could meet one famous historical character, who would that be and describe your conversation.
"What we are looking for is originality of thought, interesting ideas and an ability to communicate those thoughts and ideas via written word," Greenall said. "We are also looking for a writer who can engage their audience in just a few sentences and leave us wanting to read more."
The deadline for submission is January 31, 2013. All work must be created entirely by the student submitting the essay, and the winner must complete the application process and qualify academically for enrollment. Current and former Westwood students are not eligible for the scholarship. For more information about the essay contest and rules to submit essays, visit www.essayforeducation.com.
