Cutting Playground Costs for the City with Donated Doors in Phoenix
Children love to play on jungle gyms and other outdoor equipment, but due to the economic turmoil many cities are in these playgrounds may become extinct.

"Many cities are unable to create new playgrounds for the children because they can't afford it", explains Tabitha Under, a spokesperson for the group. "What we realized is that recycled materials can just as easily be used to make a playground for the children, and it costs a fraction of the costs."
The group of individuals went throughout the city of Phoenix to see what materials various businesses were willing to part with. Businesses were able to part with plastic tubing, wooden doors, cardboard and other materials.
"We took all the materials that was donated and sat down to create a playground out of the materials", explained Tabitha Under. "We had a lot of materials and it took a little creative thinking, but we came up with something that worked."
The playground that the group came up with is fairly unique. It has numerous slides, see-saws and swings, but there is one unique feature that can't be replaced. That feature is the unique maze of doors.
"We had a huge donation of doors in Phoenix", said Tabitha Under. "We didn't know what to do with the over 500 donated doors. That was when one of the group members came up with the idea of creating a complex maze of doors that went right next to the playground."
The maze of doors isn't part of the playground, but is located right next to it. It features over 500 doors and a complex maze of hallways. Children can run through the maze and try to make their way to the end.
"Children love puzzles", said child psychologist, Teri Andrews. "This doors maze is amazing for both their physical and mental growth. I wouldn't be surprised if it became the most popular part of the playground when it was unveiled."
The completely handmade playground is scheduled to be unveiled early next spring. The group of individuals plan on working through the fall and winter to put the finishing touches on both the maze and the playground.
"The playground will be available for spring 2013", explained Tabitha Under. "I can't wait to see the look on the children's faces. It's been a long time since they had a new playground."
