RadiantBrands Design Approach Reaffirms the San Francisco Roots of Pet Food Express with Opening of New California Street Store
Berkeley Creative Agency's Ongoing Work with Pet Food Express Connects Bay Area Brand Presence with Neighborhood Appeal.

The new California Street store design reflects the Pet Food Express commitment to sustainability, using a variety of building materials, such as sustainably harvested Western Cedar, and featuring a unique solar-powered pet wash. The warm and inviting color palette and signature animal illustrations throughout the store convey a strong and consistent brand image and reinforce the company's commitment to high quality products and service. RadiantBrands has helped every store become part of the local community through the design of iconic community graphics and information about nearby pet care, dog parks, and other pet-oriented information. For the new California Street location, RadiantBrands was able to extend the theme of being part of the Laurel Heights neighborhood with a mural of historic black-and-white photos of Pet Food Express and information about Pet Food Express's work with local animal shelters.
"Pet Food Express has been a Bay Area brand for more than 30 years, and has always stood for wholesome pet care products and connection to the local pet community," said Steven Donaldson, co-founder of RadiantBrands. "We believe that creating a positive neighborhood experience makes the store an asset to the neighborhood; we achieve that through the color palette, historic information, and referrals to local pet resources. The result is a personalized and localized experience that makes the shopper feel more at home, and that reminds them that Pet Food Express is part of their Bay Area neighborhood."
Pet Food Express began as Pro Pet when Michael Levy founded the first store in San Francisco in 1980. Michael partnered with Mark Witriol in 1992 to expand the operation, and today there are 38 stores throughout the Bay Area, making Pet Food Express the fifth largest pet retailer in the United States. The duo has always been committed to supporting customers with the latest information about pet nutrition and health. Unlike some other pet product retailers, Pet Food Express will not sell pets but instead promotes pet adoption, both at its store locations and by supporting pet adoption services. Its mission is to find a home for every homeless dog and cat in the Bay Area. The company has a long history of giving back to the local community, including donations of over $1.1 million to Bay Area rescue organizations and shelters in 2010 alone. RadiantBrands has captured many of these values in their store design, product packaging, online presence, and sales collateral.
