Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) October 24, 2012 - Learning valuable skills through online videos has become the latest trend in the education field. Many colleges and universities are offering students the chance to pass on a traditional classroom setting and learn in a free, independent environment with online videos. While most schools feature a straightforward lecture video, the Learning is Fun University takes learning to a whole new level.

"Our entire goal is to make learning as fun as possible", said the marketing director for Learning is Fun University. "That doesn't mean that our students sit around playing games and clowning around. No, our students learn, but not in a strict learning environment."

One of the first courses offered by the Learning is Fun University is an IT course. Students are encouraged to sit through several online IT training videos, where they will learn the basic skills that will be needed to succeed in a career in the IT field. After watching the videos students are encouraged to take part in one of two 'fun' courses.

"We offer our students a chance to create an avatar, meet with friends and other students, and talk about what they learned", said the marketing director. "This setup allows our students to feel as if they are in an actual classroom setting without actually being in one. They can talk to other students, work on projects together and do pretty much everything they could in a real campus setting."

Another alternative students have is the ability to take part in a series of trivia games after watching the online IT training videos. These trivia games feature multiple choice questions and a format similar to Jeopardy. Students can earn badges and compete against each other to get to the top of the leaderboard.

"A little friendly competition can encourage the students to try their best in the classroom setting", explained Joe Narrows, the creator of Learning is Fun University. "Students want to see their name up there on the top of the leaderboard so they try their best to learn what they can in the videos."

Currently the IT courses are the only ones offered at this online university. The university plans on using the same format for several other courses that students can attend. These courses will include engineering, nursing and other popular degree programs.

"Right now we only offer the IT program", said Narrows. "We plan to expand our university in the next year or so to include multiple degrees."
