Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) October 24, 2012 - Students from all over the country have been competing for a chance to earn a spot in the valuable Microsoft IT online training. There is a very limited amount of spots available, and the number of students who wish to take part far exceeds the number of available spots. This presents a unique challenge to many universities that wish to provide students with a chance to attend this course.

"We have so many students who express an interest in attending these Microsoft online IT training courses", said Jason Mountain, director for Microsoft programs at the Online University. "Unfortunately, we can only provide a handful of students with a chance to take part in these courses."

So many students are inquiring about the Microsoft online IT training course that the school is to taking a unique approach to how it declines students. The old way of choosing students was through a random lottery system.

"We used to assign students random numbers and then use a lottery system to choose who would attend the courses", said Mountain. "We have since come up with a more unique approach to telling students if they were chosen for the course."

The new unique way involves cereal boxes and other items. The school will purchase several cereal boxes and place a slip of paper at the bottom of some of the boxes. Students will have to choose a box and on the correct date will open the box to see if they gained entry into the training course.

"We thought this would be a fun approach to telling students they got in the course", said Mountain. "On the day we allow them to open up the cereal boxes we see it all. Some students sit and eat the cereal; others will just dump it out. It's all a lot of fun."

The students have reacted nicely to this new approach to letting them know if they got in the course.

"I didn't really like the old lottery system", said Will Young, a student at the Online University. "It was so dull when they announced the numbers and it took forever to find out which numbers were picked. This new approach is fun.

Everyone gathers, we tear open the boxes and see who got in and who didn't. It's like we're kids finding the prize at the bottom of the cereal box all over again."
