Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards - 2012 Best Cities, Islands, Resorts & Hotels

As Condé Nast Traveler will have you know, "Truth in Travel" is their guiding principal.Luckily for us, this year over 46,000 of them participated in the 25th annual Readers' Choice Awards.

Bangkok, Thailand (prHWY.com) October 25, 2012 - The results? They elected a grand total of 1,306 winners across the globe, some expected, others not, but all chosen fairly, impartially, and authoritatively. The vigorous curiosity to see the world includes Asia, of course, and unsurprisingly Thailand scored extremely favorably in multiple categories, so let's take a look...

Right off the bat, Bangkok - judged on factors such as Ambience, Shopping and Friendliness - comes in with an overall rating of 83.0 and a fourth place finish in the Top Cities in the World category! An impressive feat no doubt, ranked just behind Florence, Italy.

As for its standing when compared to other Top Cities in Asia, Conde Nast's readers can think of none better than the City of Angels. Bangkok is #1 - edging out Hong Kong and Kyoto - scoring high marks for Culture/sites, Lodging, and of course its legendary Restaurant scene. What's more, Thailand's very own Chiang Mai came in at #5, largely due to its own unique brand of Culture.

Moving out of the cities, Thailand, as expected, shined brightly on the list of the Top 10 Islands in Asia, ringing in again with 2 of the top 5! Phuket, the readers' 2nd choice, was favored for its beautiful Beaches (returning the second highest score in that category, behind only Lombok); and Koh Samui at #5 was buoyed by its lovely Scenery, the locals'charming Friendliness, and its diversity of Lodging.

And speaking of lodging, what vacation would be complete without a classy and comfortable place to stay? Good thing for travelers to Thailand, the Land of Smiles is laden with world-class resorts, and Condé Nast readers placed 4 of them in their Top 15 Resorts in Asia. They described the Four Seasons Chiang Mai as "almost like heaven," said of the Anantara Phuket Villas that the best room is "any, even the standard rooms hit the sweet spot," called the Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle in Chiang Rai a "simply stunning property," and lauded the grounds of the JW Marriott Phuket as "lush, spectacular and creative."
