Hesley Group's Head of Clinical Services to speak at Autism Today Conference
The Autism Today Winter Conference, held on the 1st and 2nd of November in Manchester, brings together a number of leading autism support, healthcare and education specialists.

2012 marks the 11th year of the popular Autism Today Conference, which this year meets in early November at Manchester Town Hall and is an essential event for those working in autism care. The conference gives attendees the chance to discuss the issues at the forefront of autism education and care and get the very latest research and insights. Open to all autism professionals, the event is the perfect opportunity to mix with experts in the field and share practical ideas that can be used in any autism support environment.
One of the many highlights of this year's conference includes a talk on managing self-injurious behaviour in autism, led by Dr Fred Furniss and Dr Asit Biswas. Dr Furniss is the Head of Clinical Services at the well-respected Hesley Group, a leading provider of specialist autism care, whose residential facilities, autism education resources and teams of experienced autism support staff help a number of children and adults with autism in the North West and from around the UK. The Group's range of facilities include two specialist autism schools, three autism care homes and community supported living services, each working with the aim of providing those with autism exactly what they need to develop a range of skills and reach their full potential.
Dr Furniss works closely with his team of clinical and behaviour specialists at the Hesley Group, specialising in assessment and intervention for those with challenging behaviours and emotional difficulties. His expertise in managing severe self-injury can be seen in the many research articles and book chapters he has produced. His current work exploring the connection between mood disorders and anxiety in those with an autism spectrum disorders means his presentation at the Autism Today Conference will be of great interest to those working in the field.
