New York, NY (prHWY.com) October 27, 2012 - This past week, on October 10th, Mountainside On Site Massage Therapy was privileged to once again be invited to the Rutgers University Newark Campus to provide chair massage at their "RU Healthy" Fall Health Fair Students and faculty were invited to participate in a number of different healthy activities, which included healthy food, fitness, nutrition, and stress management.

The students enjoyed the health fair as a way to take a break from their usual classroom activities to learn about being more healthy and active. Many of the students had never received a massage before, and were happy that the university provided them with the opportunity to experience a massage. Although chair massages are brief and very different than the standard table to shiatsu mat massages, they have been shown to be beneficial.

For example, there is a recent study outlined on the studies page of our website which details a program utilized by a hospital to provide nurses with the opportunity to receive a certain number of chair massages each week. Using several different self reporting scales, the study concluded that the nurses had reported a reduction in stress caused by their job. This study allowed each of the nurses participating to receive one fifteen minute massage per week, which is the same service as was received by the students at Rutgers.

Rutgers University has used this annual health fair, as well as the annual De-Stress Fest, as a way to show their students and faculty members that relaxation and healthy habits are important, and that there are many things they can do in their own lives to adopt a healthier lifestyle with healthier habits of eating, working, studying, and relaxing in a balanced and well-rounded way.
