California, CA (prHWY.com) October 29, 2012 - Electric motors are devices that are used in almost every appliance that we use in our daily lives. Right from the time these motors were first invented, they have improved in leaps and bounds and today there are various types of motors available for various purposes. During the early part of the 19th century when motors came into existence, they did not enjoy the popularity they are enjoying currently since the concept of electricity distribution was not in existence. But today, thanks to the easy availability of electricity, there are various types of electrical motors that one can choose from. We are now so dependent on these motors, that life without them has become unimaginable.

Electric motors can be divided into two main categories, namely AC motors and DC motors. The DC electric motor was the first type of motor to be invented. These motors are provided with constant, unvarying current. These DC electrical motors can be further classified in brushed and brushless motors. In the brushed motors, the rotor is powered by the magnetic drives that are formed by the ring present in it. On the other hand, the rotor of the brushless motors is powered using a switch that generates the magnetic field. The other types of DC motors that one can choose from are the switched reluctance DC motors, ironless or coreless DC motors and printed armature DC motors. However, there are a number of drawbacks associated with using motors that run on DC current. You can overcome these drawbacks, by using the Abb inverters that convert the DC current into AC current, thus increasing the functionality of the DC motors.

The AC electric motors are the ones that work on AC current. Abb inverters need not be used with appliances that use these motors. There are three main types of AC electrical motors, namely single phase, two phase and three phase AC motors. The single phase AC motors are normally used for home appliances such as blenders, fans and others since they require lesser amount of electrical energy to perform their functions. On the other hand, the three phase AC motors are normally used in large manufacturing industries. Large blowers and other heavy machines in the industries that require huge amount of electrical energy to perform their functions normally use this type of AC motors.

In addition to these two types, there are universal electric motors as well available today. These are motors that can work either using AC or DC power supply. Since they have the ability to work with either AC or DC supply, they can function well without the use of Abb inverters too. However, there are times when people prefer to use these inverters to overcome the shortcomings of the DC power supply. These motors are also commonly used for home appliances. Vacuum cleaners and food processors are two appliances that use the universal motor. Considering the various choices available, it is imperative that you have a clear idea about your requirements before you make your choice.
