Eltham, Australia (prHWY.com) November 2, 2012 - Ever increasing price of petroleum across the world compels many a commercial vehicle owner, as well as private car owner to turn to LPG to keep their vehicles running. The expense of LPG conversion depends on the specific application required for every vehicle. The process of conversion might be a little expensive; however, it turns out beneficial once done successfully. All conversions must include a dedicated point though which gas will be filled every time the fuel tank runs out of LPG. The conversion requires some new equipment. However, that does not mean that all the existing equipment will be redundant and removed during conversion. First and foremost, there should be enough space in the vehicle for the placement of the LPG cylinder. During the conversion, a dedicated LPG storage unit has to be installed with an Automatic Fill Limiter (AFL).

The Automatic Fill Limiter checks the fill limit of the storage unit to 80 percent keeping enough space for the LPG to expand in changing temperatures. The converter or regulator is one of the most important units in the conversion kit. It constantly converts and regulates liquid gas into vapour. The process also requires an air and fuel mixer to mix air and LPG proportionally. The process of LPG injection is more complex than that of a mixer. Systems of LPG injection enable precise and efficient control of gas flow and are more expensive than systems consisting of an air and fuel mixer. The LPG conversion kit also comes with a fuel lock which controls and channelizes fuel supply from the fuel tank to the engine.

This lock lets the fuel out of the fuel tank when the engine is turned on, and prevents the fuel from flowing out of the tank the moment the engine is off. Now-a-days, most of the vehicles are equipped with a LPG fuel control processor. However, not all the vehicles that are run by petrol can be subjected to conversion into gas. Whether LPG conversion is possible for a particular vehicle or not, depends on whether the specific LPG conversion kit required for that vehicle, is available in the market, or not. The owner of a vehicle should always consult the manufacturer of the vehicle before opting for the conversion. The mechanism of the vehicle might not be compatible for the conversion to LPG from petroleum.

In such a case, problems regarding the durability of engine might crop up if the vehicle owner still opts for the conversion. Engines with LPG compatibility are specified usually, when the vehicle is manufactured. The owner of the vehicle should consult the LPG installers about the pros and cons of the conversion of vehicles of that particular type, in detail. The owner of the vehicle should also consider if any post conversion servicing is required. He/she should also consider the necessary options regarding maintenance since proper maintenance keeps the operating cost within control. Necessary caution should be measured during the process of conversion by the LPG installers.
