New York, NY (prHWY.com) November 2, 2012 - Teenage sensation Miley Cyrus made headlines recently after her Salvia smoking video surfaced. Salvia is an ornamental plant that is native to the central parts of Mexico and is known through generations for its medicinal values. However, there has been increasing tendency amongst teens to get high on this medicinal herb because of its consciousness altering properties. Many teenagers are now found to get into a habit of chewing or rolling Salvia in a paper to smoke it just like cigarettes. The Miley Cyrus Salvia incident instantly resulted in criticism from media, her fans, and different organizations. Though she addressed the issue by apologizing for this irresponsible act, this has again sparked controversies across the country concerning the legal status of Salvia.

Salvia is a well known herbal remedy that has been used since a long time by the local people in the mountainous regions of central Mexico to cure headache, physical weariness, constipation, and mental stress. In the present day context, many renowned researchers are engaged in extensive studies to develop medicines for diseases like Alzheimer's, cocaine addiction, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder etc. from Salvia. However, the law enforcers have always been rather inconsiderate while deciding on the legal status of Salvia. The Miley Salvia episode certainly gives them one more reason to take strict measures against Salvia.

The history of human civilization suggests that human beings have always been responsible for defaming God's beautiful creations. The abuse of Salvia has reached such a proportion that people often tend to forget its amazing healing characteristics. The recent act by Miley Cyrus is certainly nothing more than a cheap act of gaining publicity. However, a star of her stature must have been more careful because most people at their young age are influenced significantly by the acts of their favorite stars. This small act of stupidity has certainly put a serious question mark now over the future of Salvia in the United States.

Salvia is already banned in many countries around the world. United States have been much more sensible so far in terms imposing restrictions on this plant. The biggest reason not to ban Salvia is that it is completely safe and non addictive. Talking about the health impacts of Salvia, Professor Ramani Durvasula from California State University says, ' 'Users report perceptual distortions, and many people report a sense of subjective well being, too. The strong hallucinogen is fast acting - the onset of effects is less than 30 seconds, and it lasts for only about 10 to 15 minutes. However, no scientific evidence has been found about its negative impact on human health'. The increasing popularity of Salvia amongst teenagers is certainly a serious concern. Now, after the Miley Cyrus Salvia video incident, the task of containing these young Salvia addicts becomes even more difficult.

At present, fourteen American states have enacted regulatory control of varying severity on Salvia. Many others are already considering following these fourteen states and impose similar restrictions. This would not only deprive people of America of the curative benefits of the plant, but might result in an untimely end of all research activities that could have proved extremely useful for the mankind. The world would certainly remember this Miley Salvia video as the assassin of Salvia.
