Pink Polo and Dubai Business Women Council team up to increase breast cancer awareness
DBWC organises the high-profile monthly event 'Network Majlis' to provide information about the latest knowledge, skills and best practices for women entrepreneurs and leaders.

Dubai Business Women Council (DBWC) has announced that it has joined forces with Pink Polo, the UAE's ground-breaking breast cancer initiative, to promote breast cancer awareness in the UAE community.
Designed as a fun family day out, the third edition of Pink Polo, which will take place at the Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club on November 10, 2012, will feature an exhibition game between the event's Presenting Partner Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) and St. Regis.
DBWC is the official representative organisation for business women, both professionals and entrepreneurs, in the emirate of Dubai. In line with DBWC objectives, the Pink Polo initiative is focused on building awareness, educating the community about specific issues, and promoting opportunities, while also stimulating a positive change in the community.
Members of DBWC are being encouraged to participate in the Pink Market, a selling point at the Pink Polo event, where profits will be donated to various breast cancer charities.
Commenting on the announcement, Mrs. Raja Al Gurg, President, DBWC said: "A community awareness project like Pink Polo appeals to Dubai Business Women Council on many levels. It is a creative and innovative project that was established by a woman, and promotes a life-saving message to the local community through the medium of sport. We feel that a project of this kind not only empowers women to take control of their health, it also provides an excellent platform for them to be proactive in promoting business interests and open discussions across a range of important topics."
Carrie McNeill, Founder of Pink Polo, said: "Working with the DBWC is an excellent opportunity for Pink Polo to connect with business leaders who can help spread our important message even further afield. As a business owner myself, I am always interested in what is happening at the DBWC, so I am very pleased to have them on board."
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UAE and is one of the biggest killers of women. Breast cancer among women in the UAE is common between the ages of 40 and 45, which is ten years younger than in Europe and America. Moreover, only 30 per cent of breast cancer cases in the Emirates are diagnosed in the early stages, which is disappointing considering that if the disease is discovered and treated early, 98 per cent of women will survive.
Founded in 2002, DBWC motivates women to be productive members of the society, while encouraging role models to rise up from the ranks and inspire other women around the world, especially in the Arab region, to discover their true potential. DBWC organises the high-profile monthly event 'Network Majlis' to provide information about the latest knowledge, skills and best practices for women entrepreneurs and leaders.
