Virtual Antarctica Cruise Gives People Opportunity to Experience a Once in a Lifetime Experience
Traveling on an Antarctica cruise is often thought of as a once in a lifetime experience. The ability to feel the crisp cool breeze flowing through one's hair, the chance to see exotic animals and really relax in a winter wonderland,

Crystal Oceans Cruises has teamed up with Hanks' Technology to create a virtual Antarctica cruise that allows people to experience the trip firsthand. This two day virtual cruise gives guests the same experience as a real cruise without having to travel thousands of miles away.
"We noticed that as the demand grew for Antarctica cruises, people were expressing their desire to go but inability to leave home for so many days", explained Crystal Oceans Cruises' marketing director, Summer Winds. "We really wanted to create something that everyone could enjoy, even those who couldn't get out and about. That's when we came up with the idea for a virtual cruise."
Crystal Oceans Cruises took an entire abandoned warehouse and transformed it into a mini-cruise ship. All the walls of the warehouse are lined with high definition flat screen TVs that project a moving image similar to what people would experience on the actual cruise. In addition to the TVs, there is also a temperature control system that controls the temperature and an audio system to pipe in authentic sounds.
"We want the entire experience to be as authentic as possible", explained Winds. "The sounds, the video experience, the temperature; it's all as authentic as possible."
Guests are able to reserve a lodging room on the virtual cruise ship and take part in several activities that are offered on the Antarctica cruise. Guests are able to take part in lectures, conferences, and social gatherings. They are also able to watch live entertainment shows and visit the casino.
"Everything that is offered on our Antarctica cruise is offered here", explained Winds. "Guests even have a small balcony that they can walk out on and feel the wind in their hair and the cool temperatures on their skin. It really is amazing."
Feedback for this virtual ship has been astounding. The first few trips of the virtual ship were packed to capacity.
"When I heard about this virtual cruise ship I knew I had to try it", said Barry Sanders. "I loved it. I can't take off of work to experience the actual cruise, but this is pretty darn close. I look forward to trying it again in the future."
