New Cleansing Ritual Uses Doors in Phoenix to Help People Heal and Forgive
The key to a successful counseling or therapy session is to help an individual heal and move forward. The complex structure of the human body and mind makes this extremely difficult as what works for one person, might not work for another.

"I noticed a lot of my patients were reluctant to heal with the use of only talk therapy", said Dennis Under, a therapist operating out of Phoenix, Arizona. "I wanted to come up with something that would help these individuals heal and move forward. That was when I came up with my Step through a Door Therapy session."
The Step through a Door Therapy session is built around the symbolic gesture of opening a door and stepping through it to a whole new beginning and life. The patients that sign up for the therapy session spend countless hours talking with a licensed therapist to detail what they are trying to move forward from and how they can start a new beginning. After the discussion they then perform the symbolic gesture of walking through the door.
"We hold these therapy sessions in a conference room type setting", explained Dennis Under. "We spend a half day working individually with the patients and then the other half is spent on the cleansing ritual."
The cleansing ritual may sound a bit out there, but it's extremely therapeutic. Several doors have been placed throughout the room and during the ritual patients will loudly proclaim what they are moving forward from and start the ritual of walking through each door.
"It can be really cleansing and therapeutic", explained Dennis Under. "These people are leaving behind the things that have been haunting them for years and vowing to start a new life without it plaguing them. It's really important."
The Step through a Door Therapy session has been around for the past two years. It has treated over 500 patients and is estimated to have a 90% success rate. The reviews from patients who have gone through it have been amazing.
"I was skeptical that this type of therapy session would work", said Tina Bauer, a patient who underwent the therapy session last year. "It has been over a year and I haven't felt the overwhelming sense that my problems are preventing me from doing what I want. I would recommend this treatment, as silly as it sounds, to anyone who has problems moving forward."
