Toronto, Canada (prHWY.com) November 23, 2012 - Pranayama comes from the joining of two Sanskrit words: prāṇa and ayāma. The word "prāṇa" means "the extension of the life force" and the word "ayāma" means "to extend or draw out". The Pranayama is one of the five techniques of yoga to control the breathing activity which promotes proper breathing to add maximum oxygen in the body and the brain. More the oxygen added in the blood, through Pranayama, healthier becomes the body and sharper becomes the brain.

Yoga for kids is very important to help them inculcate discipline, healthy body, mind and lifestyle for the longer run. To prepare the body for the yoga poses or asana, it is started with a few quiet minutes, to Pranayama, to prepare the body and mind for the practice. Through Pranayama, an attention is paid to the breathing process in the body while tuning out other sights and sounds.

It not only helps to relax the minds and bodies but also improves focus and concentration.

The process of Pranayama goes this way:
1. Close the eyes
2. Slowly, breathe in through nose and fill the lungs with air
3. Pause for sometime
4. During the pause, feel that the body and mind are getting filled with oxygen and energy
5. Now, slowly, breathe out through nose
6. Again, pause for a while and focus on the body getting ready for yoga
7. After several repetitions of the steps 1-6, open the eyes slowly and feel completely relaxed and ready for the yoga poses.

After the Pranayama, all the vital organs of the body and brain are filled with sufficient oxygen and body gets rid of all the waste products and toxins. Oxygen is a very important nutrient for the body. It not only helps all the vital organs to work efficiently but also prevents mental sluggishness, negative thoughts, depression and, eventually, vision and hearing declines.

Although, breathing occurs automatically, spontaneously, and naturally in every living being yet it has become very important to control the breathing process and the only reason behind it, is the changing lifestyle. Everyone is running towards a very sedentary lifestyle due to which normal breathing fails to put sufficient oxygen into the system. This is where the breathing technique or the Pranayama helps gain a healthy mind, body and soul.
