Buying a Caravan TV
Buying the correct television for your caravan is a bit of a minefield. I never knew that there was a difference between a normal TV you use in your house and a television that you can use in a caravan or motorhome.

What is the difference I hear you cry? Well the main difference is power consumption. If you use a standard portable TV or standard LCD TV in a caravan, unless you have mains wired power you are running that TV from a battery.
As TVs in general consume a large amount of power if you watch your television for just a few hours a night, after a few days your battery will be dead and now you have no TV until you can recharge the battery.
This is where a specialist 12vTV comes in handy. A 12v T.V. consumes around 40% less power than a conventional TV. This means that you never have to miss your favourite television programme while out and about in your caravan or motor home.
A dedicated caravan TV has many positive plus points over a conventional TV. For one the picture quality on the latest 12v TVs are amazing and many boast full HD, just as your home TV may do, but there are two really great features that put the caravan television head and shoulders above the standard TVs. One is the thin form factor, and the other is the ability to retune the TV at just a quick press of a button.
You really need a thin TV in a caravan, http://vimeo.com/54498868 due to the lack of space so this is a major selling point of these types of TVs. Many people have them mounted on a cupboard door or mounted to the roof of their motorhome or caravan to save space, and when not in use the either unclip the television using special quick release clips or push the caravan television flush with the roof or wall to save space.
The second great feature is the ability to retune your TV quickly and easily. For example if you are traveling across Europe in your caravan then every country you pass through you will have to re-tune your TV. While you can do this on a regular TV, the new 12v caravans televisions are designed to retune very easily (one push of a button) and re-tune very quickly.
There are many different brands and sizes of 12v TV from 15" to 22" TV's from Bush to Odys. I went for an Avtex 16" TV with DVD player included and I am most impressed with this TV Avtex seems to be a high end, high specification 12v TV, like the Bang and Olufsen of the caravan TV world.
I am very happy with my new 12v television in my caravan and I'm sure that I will be spending many hours watching TV happily while the rain lashes down outside. The one downside about having a TV is that now we just can't get the kids outside.
