Bill Lyons started business after he borrowed $40,000 from the First National Bank and moved in next to his father-in-law opening a small used car dealership. In the early days he had to do all the work himself as he did not have enough money to employ people. Then later in 1967 he bought the Toyota franchise in Iowa, with the passage of time he expanded the business and Lyons moved to a larger facility in 1973, soon he would acquire the Peugeot dealership as well. This was a shrewd move and soon he became the largest volume Peugeot dealer in Iowa.

Later in 1980 Bill also acquired the Dodge dealership, but then he stepped down making way for his son in law, John Hosmer, to take over who still heads the company today.
