IMC Inclusive Innovation Awards 2012

The Indian Merchants' Chamber's "INCLUSIVE INNOVATION AWARDS" for 2012 will be held on 11th December 2012 from 5.00 to 7.00 pm at Walchand Hirachand Hall, IMC building Churchgate Mumbai. The award is sponsored by the R. Jhunjhunwala Foundation.

Mumbai, India (prHWY.com) December 7, 2012 - The Indian Merchants' Chamber's "INCLUSIVE INNOVATION AWARDS" for 2012 will be held on 11th December 2012 from 5.00 to 7.00 pm at Walchand Hirachand Hall, IMC building Churchgate Mumbai. The award is sponsored by the R. Jhunjhunwala Foundation.

Dr. R.A. Mashelkar Chairperson of Jury and National Research Professor & President, Global Research Alliance CSIR- National Chemical Laboratory will present the Awards.

The Award was initiated by IMC with the view to recognize and honour products or services which are inclusive and innovative in nature. The Product s or services is based on the facts that it uses minimal raw materials, time and other resources so as it becomes affordable for large sections of the society. The contest was open for Individuals, Public Sector enterprises, Government bodies, Private Sector Enterprises, Academic & Research Institutions, NGO/ Trust of Indian Origin.

There were a good number of quality entries were received out of which a panel of Jury Chaired by Dr. R. A. Mhashelkar and comprising Mr. Mohandas Pai, Dr, Swati Piramal, Mr. M. J. Akbar, Prof. Anil Gupta, Mr. Atul Nishar, Mr. M. L. Bhakta shortlisted five nominations. The Final Award winner will be selected out of these five through Q&A session in the morning on December 11, 2012 in IMC. The winning entry will receive Rs. 20 lakhs and the other four will be awarded Certificate of Recognition.

The Final winner will be chosen out of one of the following innovations.
Jaideep Singh, Ankit Kaushik, and Anshika Chaudhary from Delhi for their product AQUASOL innovated by them. According to them the city roads are crowded with vehicles, fossils fuels are scarce and cause pollution; the villagers lack efficient transportation in remote areas. The pedal pump cycle which they have innovated links these two situations. It is a standalone vehicle which beats the auto rickshaw and the pedal rickshaw. They have invented two models one for the city and other for the rural Villages. The city one can be charged by using electricity while the one in Village has a self charging battery. The village model can also purify water to portable water.


Rajinish Jain of Avani- caring for the earth an organization from Kumaon Uttarkahand has innovated in harnessing the destructive energy of Pine needles for meeting the rural energy needs and improves the rural livelihood. Central Himalayas have 1.5 million hectares of pine forests where excessive forest fires spread by pine needle litter destroys natural resources. They convert this destructive biomass into clean, affordable electrical and cooking energy for driving economic growth.

Bhargavan Mohanlal a grassroot Innovator from Alappuzha in Kerala has innovated a Marine Reversible Reduction Gear Box and manually turnable Z drive system. This innovation helps in bringing down the fuel expense by 70 percent for the ordinary fishermen. It also helps reduce the water pollution due to conversion of existing kerosene run system to an innovative diesel system.

Rai Singh Dahiya from Enersol Biopower have innovated a Bio mass Gasfire system. The machine is useful and innovative and has huge potential of shifting towards green and clean energy. This technology can easily replace diesel based engines due to low cost of operations. The machine is very useful for farmers as it uses the available farm wastes like stalks of cotton, coconut shells, maize cobs, branches and twigs, weeds like lantana camara, rice husk and dust to generate electricity. It reduces the dependency on conventional sources like petrol and Diesel. The cost effectiveness helps in reducing the cost of farming by providing cheap electricity through Biomass.

Md. Mohhand Mehtar Hussain & Mushtaq Ahmad from GIAN Ahmedabad have innovated Low cost Wind Mill. This Innovation of Drag Type low height wind mill for lifting ground water which starts at a very low wind speed is very easy to use, maintain and cheap as compared to conventional aerodynamic wind mill. This helped the salt workers for lifting saline water and performing other operations for salt making.

The event is generating a lot of enthusiasm due to these innovative ideas flowing. The winners will be provided with mentoring support to take their innovation to the market or if the product or service is already in the market to enhance its scale. The award is sponsored by the R. Jhunjhunwala Foundation and KPMG India is the knowledge partner with Radio BIG FM as radio Partner.
