Norwalk, CT (prHWY.com) December 8, 2012 - Norwalk, CT, December 08, 2012 -- Bredeson Outdoor Adventures (www.bredeson.com), a tour operator specializing in four season trips in Europe and North America, is announcing a "best of Switzerland" September 15 - 22, 2013 guided hiking adventure in the Bernese Oberland and the Engadine regions. This trip crosses three linguistic and cultural borders and allows participants to explore two of the most beautiful areas of Switzerland from the bases of Wengen in the Bernese Oberland and Pontresina in the Engadine Valley.

People who have vacationed in the Wengen area describe the addictive quality of hikes based in this car-free village high on a hillside beneath the imposing trio of the Jungfrau, Eiger and Monch mountains. Many are continuously drawn back to the Lauterbrunnen Valley. In recognition of this incredible beauty, the area, including Switzerland's Aletsch Glacier, has been designated a World Heritage Site. The hikes in Wengen take place in an area that has provided the world with much Alpine history and fiction. Think Eiger Sanction, Reichenbach Falls and On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Wengen is located on a tranquil, southwest-facing shelf that retains its chalet-style village character and local traditions and music. Trip participants won't forget the sunsets from Wengen with views of the Jungfrau, the white cone of the Silberhorn and the tail of Staubach Falls.

Midway through the trip participants will ride the famous Glacier Express train across the Swiss Alps to Pontresina and the Engadine Valley in the canton of Grissons near the Lake District of Italy and Tirol in Austria. Four major passes lead up to this high alpine valley, which runs for 60 miles along a southern terrace of the Alps and has blue skies for over 300 days a year. The Engadine combines crisp, dry air, forests, lakes and glaciated peaks. This high-alpine area is famous for its flora and fauna and superb views. Romansch - the legacy of an abandoned Roman Army - is the official language, though German is spoken by most people as well. The linguistic contrasts, the high peaks and sunny valleys, and the Italian influences in architecture combine to make this an area that has inspired writers and artists such as Rilke and Giacometti for many years.

Land cost for this fully guided adventure is $2975 per person double occupancy. Full details are posted on the Bredeson Outdoor Adventures web site at www.bredeson.com/switzerland.
