Greenville, SC (prHWY.com) December 10, 2012 - John Smeak, president of JMS Sales and Marketing in Gastonia, North Carolina, encourages parents to stay involved and invested in the lives of their children. As a former board member of Gaston Day School, John Smeak understands how important it is that parents follow the lives of their children.

As a member of the Gaston Day School Board for four years, John Smeak witnessed how crucial it is for children to know that their parents are involved and invested in their lives. John Smeak is a father himself, with two children who have recently graduated college. Both John Smeak and his wife placed their children in the center of their worlds, often placing professional opportunities aside to avoid conflicting priorities.

John Smeak encourages parents and teachers to avoid falling into the trap of relying on improving technology. "We have the temptation to let our children sit in front of television. Some of us even call that learning, but we all know our children's minds are turning to mush," says John Smeak. "Nothing can replace the human interaction between a child and a teacher - and more importantly, a child and a loving parent."

John Smeak urges fellow parents to join the PTA, school board, volunteer in school, or simply place themselves in their children's lives to help their children grow to be responsible adults. John Smeak understands that the early years are formative years and that they should be treated with much care.

Even though his children have graduated from college, John Smeak stays updated on their lives and offers advice on their professional endeavors. He doesn't want to control them: rather, John Smeak wants his children to know that he is always there to support and advise them when needed. John Smeak also hopes that when his children reproduce, they will be as invested in their children as he was in them. In fact, John Smeak also plans to be involved in the lives of his future grandchildren as well.

"Once you lose time with your children, you can never get it back. We need to be involved now," urges John Smeak.

John Smeak lives in North Carolina with his wife.
