Dubai eGovernment participates in 'Clean Up UAE 2012' for a green, sustainable UAE

A large number of employees from different divisions across Dubai eGovernment took part in the cleanup campaign

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts to maintain a safe, clean and protected environment, Dubai eGovernment has announced the successful participation of its staff in the 'Clean Up UAE 2012' campaign held on 12/12/2012. Held under the theme 'Clean, Enjoy and Protect the Environment', the campaign is being organized by Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) in collaboration with several UAE government authorities and under the patronage of high-profile banks, businesses and media organizations.

A large number of employees from different divisions across Dubai eGovernment took part in the cleanup campaign, which complemented Dubai eGovernment's broader commitment to environmental and social causes.

The 11th edition of the campaign has attracted thousands of volunteers aiming to prevent environmental degradation, and is regarded as one of the biggest events of its kind in the country. It contributes to environmental conservation through the engagement of all segments of the society to raise better awareness and integrate environmental protection and sustainable living into the daily lives of people.

'Clean Up UAE' focuses on waste reduction and recycling while educating the society on the importance of local waste prevention and its relation to the global environmental movement under the theme "think global, act local". It further aims to instil a sense of responsibility about environment protection and conservation, bringing the entire society, including the young population, government and private sectors and academic institutions, under a single national initiative. Through integrated partnerships to support sustainable development in the UAE and the region, this annual event provides the necessary practical expertise to set an action plan for reaching wider areas and ultimately creating a cleaner and greener environment.

Saeed Hussein Ahli, Director, Corporate Support Services, Dubai eGovernment, said: "Participating in 'Clean Up UAE 2012" and involving our employees to volunteer in the event is in line with what Islam teaches us and is part of the approach demonstrated by the UAE leadership to maintain a safe and healthy environment for the coming generations. We believe that social activities like 'Clean Up UAE' strengthens cooperation among corporates across the country and therefore creates the right path for us to achieve Environmental Citizenship and assume social responsibilities at all levels, even as the environmental element gains prominence worldwide."

Dubai eGovernment's participation in the campaign follows its recently signed initiative with Tadweer Waste Treatment for the segregation and processing of waste being generated by Dubai eGovernment. This move is part of a series of social initiatives to be implemented by the Department in the coming period.
