Gene Phillips of Dallas County Takes Pride in Nearly 50 Years of Business Success
Gene Phillips of Dallas County has been a real estate investor since 1964, and started investing in Texas in 1979.

When Gene Phillips of Dallas County left South Carolina, his properties were worth several hundred million dollars. "I decided it would be better to continue my career in Texas. In the late 1970s it was Texas that had the greatest investment opportunities. Starting in 1979, I continued my career in Dallas," says Gene Phillips.
Shortly after arriving in Texas, Gene Phillips of Dallas County invested in one of the greatest challenges of his career. "I invested $15 million in an Atlanta-based real estate trust called Southmark," says Gene Phillips of Dallas County. He was drawn to the company because although its assets valued $100 million, the company's stock was trading below its assets value.
"It took 7 years but Southmark grew from $100 million to a worth of $17 billion," states Gene Phillips of Dallas County. He grew the Southmark by making it a conglomerate of other companies and real estate property. The impressive portfolio pushed Gene Phillips of Dallas County's reputation as an aggressive and successful businessman.
It was also through Southmark that Gene Phillips of Dallas County acquired an oil and gas company. In 1982, he took control of Parker & Parsley Petroleum and in less than 10 years, increased the company value to $1 billion in assets. Just like he did with Southmark, Gene Phillips of Dallas County used his impressive deal making skills to grow the small gas company.
While Gene Phillips of Dallas County enjoyed his time investing, he worked hard as an executive. He held a number of executive positions with numerous different companies. The companies that Gene Phillips of Dallas County worked for were in the finance, real estate, and insurance industries. He started working as an executive in 1973 and continues work as an executive today.
