My Custom Telecaster J5 "PattzCaster"

Rare Fender J5 Telecaster Copy!!!

Texas, TX (prHWY.com) December 19, 2012 - I picked up a completely Telecaster J5 body with the intent of building my on Partscaster. It bears the mark of a Japanese Luthier in the neck pocket but could not say for sure what the original brand was. It was in really great shape sporting a poly finish in what is almost a dead match for Fender's Vintage Cream color.

It took some time to get all the right pieces together. I found the neck at a swap meet, not sure if it was a NOS replacement or something aftermarket. I had no skunk stripe on the back so I knew that meant the truss rod was right under the fret board, a feature most common with 60's and 70's neck, this was the one. The neck is 1 piece maple with maple fret board, has more of a modern 'C" shape. The fret board radius feels a little flatter than a lot of Fender necks and is real comfortable.

After going rounds on electronics I ended up with pick-ups from a MIM 72 Reissue as they matched well in terms of output. I went with a Fender replacement 3 way switch and 250k Volume and Tone pots. A Cat I know suggested a Sprague Orange Drop .0033uf tone cap, which is a milder value than most stock Teles. I went all out shielding the pickup cavities with conductive copper tape. I think the extra attention here paid off as she is very quiet and sounds great.

Other features I chose were vintage style 3 barrel saddles, set up as a top loader. The neck plate is a genuine Fender "F" neck plate, and Fender Custom Shop pearloid pick guard. I think this one turned out really nice and is a fun little player.
