Bruce Heen Revisits Career from Teacher to VP of Life Insurance Company
Bruce Heen has led a very successful career. While he started his career as a teacher, he quickly changed to become a public accountant.
(prHWY.com) January 3, 2013 - South Birmingham, AL -- Bruce Heen graduated from Devils Lake High School in North Dakota in 1968. He decided out of high school that he was going to go into education. He attended the University of North Dakota and joined the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He was a member from 1969 until his graduation in 1972.

When Bruce Heen graduated, he earned his Education degree in Social Studies & Political Science.
"I spent five years from 1972 to 1977 teaching social studies and coaching sports in Devils Lake, North Dakota," recalls Bruce Heen. However, he soon made the decision to leave teaching to become a public accountant: "I returned to school, and attended the University of North Dakota in 1977. I graduated in 1980 with an accounting degree."

He moved to Wisconsin, where he began work with Sentry Life Insurance in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. In 1982, he became a Certified Public Accountant and moved to Georgia and started a new position as an accounting manager. "In 1983, I was the Treaty Reinsurance and Financial Reporting Manager for Atlanta International Insurance Company," recalls Bruce Heen.

He changed companies in 1985 and started work for Union Security Insurance Company as a Life Insurance Financial Reporting Manager. He stayed with the company for eleven years after he had worked his way up to Assistant Vice President in 1992. He left his position to take another Vice President position with Texas Workers Compensation Company in 1996.

"I decided in 1998 to return to the credit insurance accounting field, so I left Texas Workers Compensation Company and took the position of Vice President of Reinsurance, Corporate Tax and Internal Audit for Life of the South Insurance Company," recalls Bruce Heen. He remained there until 2006, when he started another VP position with Protective Life Insurance Company. Today, Bruce Heen continues working for Protective Life Insurance Company. His official title is Vice President for the Life and Annuity Business Planning and Analysis Department.

It is not uncommon for people to switch companies or jump career paths. Bruce Heen made the jump early, switching from teaching to accounting. He has led a very successful career as an accountant. His skill and drive show through his promotions from a management position to various vice presidential positions for several different companies.
