The prestigious Aditya Vikram Birla Kalashikar & Kalakiran Puraskars 2012 for excellence in theatre will be held this year on 9th February at Tata Theatre, NCPA, Nariman Point, 6pm onwards.
(prHWY.com) February 5, 2013 - Mumbai, India -- The prestigious Aditya Vikram Birla Kalashikar & Kalakiran Puraskars 2012 for excellence in theatre will be held this year on 9th February at Tata Theatre, NCPA, Nariman Point, 6pm onwards. Amongst the illustrious winners this year are Smt Yamunabai Vikram Jawle & Shri R. Nageswara Rao for life time achievement in performing folk arts and Smt Durgabai Vyam, Shri Dineshchandra Kumhar, Shri Anandilal Kurmi & Shri Umar Fahrukh Mewati for being most promising folk artists. The awards would be presented by Honorable Shri Prithviraj Chavan, Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The award function will be followed by a musical extravaganza.

Sangit Kala Kendra (SKK) was founded in 1973 by Late Shri Aditya Vikram Birla to encourage and nurture the various performing arts. Since its inception the Kendra has been presenting prestigious art events and thereby has acquired recognition as one of the premier cultural instructions of the country.

SKK instituted in the year 1996, the "Aditya Vikram Birla Kalashikhar Puraskar" in memory of its founder President. This award is conferred on as artist in the visual or performing arts for lifetime achievement and comprises a cash award of Rupees two Lacs, a memento and scroll honour. This year, that is 2012, it is proposed to present the award in the field of "Performing folk arts". It will be awarded to a living, senior, and reputed artist.


In addition to the above, awards of the "Aditya Birla Kalakiran Purakar" would be presented to two young artist in the above field. The artist should be citizens of India, between the age of 25 to 40 years, and have a promising future. The puraskar comprises a cash award of Rupees Fifty Thousand only, a memento and a scroll of honour.


In the recent past, Pandit Jasraj, M F Hussain, Lata Mangeshkar, Padit kelucharan Mohapatra have been proud recipients of the Kalashikhar Puraskar. This year the event will be graced by the presence of Rajashree Birla, Kumar Mangalam Birla and Neerja Birla.
