After the lingering winter chill in the month of January, UK bids farewell to 2013's first month and greets the "love" month with an array of beautiful gardening events around the country.
(prHWY.com) February 11, 2013 - London, United Kingdom -- The first event for the month was the Winter Flower Festival at All Saints Church in Melbourn. The festival started by candlelight on February 1 at seven in the evening and concluded with a lovely Candlemas service on February 3 at 5 in the afternoon. The church was delightfully decorated with colourful flowers for the occasion. Among the flowers exhibited in the festival were snowdrops, orchids, and amaryllis. It was estimated to have attracted about 500 people for the entire weekend.
Last February 2, there was a talk in Surrey by the Royal Horticultural Society entitled "Planting Design across the Seasons - Winter." The lecture was regarding how to create interest in winter plants. In addition to that, the RHS will also hold a Plant & Design Show at the RHS Horticultural Halls in London this coming February 19 and 20. The event will feature inspirational plant displays and the latest garden designs.
On the 3rd of February was the Wonderful Winter Workdays at Gunnersbury Triangle, Bollo Lane, Chiswick. Activities included clearing the pond, picking litters, cutting vegetation from paths, coppicing trees, and some do-it-yourself tasks. Aside from that, participants were also able to observe some of the wildlife in the area, such as amphibians, woodpeckers, and sparrowhawks. There will be another similar event at the same place on February 24, which would be from 11am to 3pm.
The same day on another locale was the Seedy Sunday's Brighton Corn Exchange, which happened from 10am to 4pm. It is the country's longest running seed swap event, and over 3000 people came to participate in the event. Entry fee was 3GBP for adults, but children could come in for free. Speakers at the event were author James Wong and Patrick Mulvany from UK Food Group.
On February 9, there will be a series of events in different locations set to surely excite gardening enthusiasts around London. There will be a landscape and wildlife photography workshop at the Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal North Yorks; Bottisham & District annual seed exchange at the Bottisham Royal Legion, Cambridge; open gardens at Walkern Hall Stevenage, Herts; and the Snowdrop Days at Colesbourne Park, Gloucestershire, Cotswolds.
More wonderful garden events scheduled for February will be up to the 20th, and they include Snowdrop exhibits at the Royal Botanic Garden on the 15th-17th and at Little Ponton Gardens, Grantham on the 16th-17th; Potato Day at Church Hall, King Street, Wales; talks at Selly Park Garden Club on the 12th and at Westonbirt, Tetbury, Gloucestershire on the 17th; and open weekend at Waterperry Gardens, Oxford.
