The Tupelo-Lee Humane Society hired Animal Shelter Fundraising to come to Lee County and perform a feasibility study as a next step in building a new animal shelter.
(prHWY.com) February 14, 2013 - Tupelo, MS -- The Tupelo-Lee Humane Society (TLHS) today announced that it has retained Animal Shelter Fundraising, an Arizona-based consulting firm specializing in helping animal welfare groups with fundraising, marketing and operations, to conduct a Fundraising Feasibility Study for the nonprofit organization located at 2400 South Gloster Street in Tupelo.
The Fundraising Feasibility Study is an in-depth and comprehensive look at the various factors that assess the organization's chance of successfully raising enough capital to fund construction of the new animal shelter and ability to attract community leadership and gain public support. Animal Shelter Fundraising anticipates completing and reporting the results of the study by the end of March.
The humane society's current animal shelter has been operating out of a building on South Gloster Street in Tupelo since 1995. The building was built in 1960 and was originally designed to be a veterinary office, so repurposing it for an animal shelter has been challenging. Although the organization has made numerous repairs and renovations to the current facility, the facility's design is inefficient to cool in the summer and heat in the winter, while schematically the design contributes to higher incident of stress and disease for animals being housed. The organization believes the current facility no longer meets the needs of the community.
"This is exciting," said TLHS Executive Director Debbie Hood. "A new animal shelter has been needed for years. We hired Animal Shelter Fundraising to guide us through this process and develop a winning plan."
Tupelo-Lee Humane Society is one of just a couple open-admission animal shelters in the entire Northeast Mississippi region that takes in all domestic pets, regardless of where they came from. Animals from throughout the region are brought to Tupelo for a chance at a better life.
Land was donated recently near the corner of Cliff Gookin Boulevard and Thomas Street to put up a shelter.
