Adventure for Mt. Everest-the Third Pole of the World
Day 1 Arrive in Lhasa, get the first impression of Tibet
Highlighsts: Spectacular scenery and typical Tibetan villages along the way.
Take morning flight to Lhasa, upon arrival, be greeted by local guide at airport and be presented with traditional Tibetan White Scarf to wish you good luck! After group photo at airport, board on the coach and transfer back to hotel, you will enjoy the spectacular scenery and the typical Tibetan villages on the way. Stay at the hotel after arrival for adapting to the high attitude. It is helpful to take things easy for the first few days, and try to drink some water just and now.
Day 2 Lhasa Highlights
Highlighsts: Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street, Sera Monastery
Start the morning from a close touch with Jokhang, the center of the Tibetan Buddhism and the sacred land of Buddhist followers where innumerable pilgrims come for worship everyday. Then you could explore the bustling markets of the Barkhor and watch the locals as they prostrate around the Jokhang Temple. After lunch, drive to the edge of the town, have a little hike for the beautiful valley scenery nearby Sera Monastery before catch the famous debate sessions of the monks in Sera monastery, which was created in 1419 and has always been an important Buddhist seminary.
Day 3 Lhasa Monasteries
Highlighsts: Potala Palace & half day free time
Today we go to the Potala Palace, a golden feather upon the roof of the world, which Tibetans proudly claim to be the prime miracle since the creation of this world. The rest of today is your free time, you can travel around the city by yourself or get into the roadside Tibetan souvenir workshops to pick up your favorite stuff. Or join in one of our two free activities to enjoy the time, one is enjoy Tibetan afternoon tea in a local tea house and visiting Dickey Orphanage nearby, the other is invited to delve in the glorious culture of Tibet in Tibet Museum. The driver and tour guide will take you to one of the two places but you need to get back to hotel by yourself.
Day 4 Lhasa/Gyantse/Shigatse
Highlighsts: Yamdrok Yumtso Lake, Pelkor Monastery and Kumbum Stupa
After fully explore Lhasa, you'll have a chance to get lost in the endless Tibetan landscape while you take a short hike along the turquoise waters of Lake Yamdrok, one of the three holy lakes in Tibet and the largest habitat of waterfowls in south Tibet. Afterwards pass by the 5,010 m high Karo La and the Simi La forward to Gyantse (approx. 3.950 m). Visit Pelkor Monastery as well as the splendid Kumbum Stupa (100-Thousand-Buddha Pagoda) nearby, both of them built in the15th century and situated in the northwestern edge of Gyantse. In the afternoon drive about 90 kilometers to Shigatse (3880m), the second largest city with 40,000 inhabitants in Tibet and the traditional capital of the Tsang.
Day 5 Shigatse to Rongbuk Monastery
Highlighsts: drive from Shigatse to Shegar, then continue to Rongbuk Monastery
Today we have an early start to drive westwards the Friendship way to Rongbuk. On the road the drive is full of magnificent scenery and cross some extremely high passes including Gyatsola (5248m). The road to Everest diverts off the newly paved Friendship highway near the town of Shegar and turns into bumpy gravel trail, which is still 90km to get to Rongpuk. If it is in clear weather, you can have a glimpse of 4 mountains which is 8000m high or more, such as: Mt. Lhotse (8516m),Mt. Everest (8848m), Mt. Qowowuyag (8201m),Mt Mayalu (8463m).
Day 6 Drive back to Lhatse B
Highlighsts: after the magnificent views of Mt. Everest, we drive back to Lhatse
Get up early for sunrise. You could take the local bus to arrive at Everest Base camp for half an hour, or you also can have a hike to Base Camp around 1.5-2 hours one way. It's interesting and much warmer, but hard to breath. The morning is frigid and as the wind howl your fingers must be frozen trying to take pictures of the iconic mountain but it is worth the pain to view such an amazing site. Then in the afternoon go down from E.B.C back to Shegar by friend-ship highway and continue back to Lhatse.
Day 7 Drive back to Lhasa
Highlighsts: Tashilumpo Monastery and enjoy the breathtaking views along the way back to Lhasa
This morning you'll have an opportunity to explore the Tashilumpo Monastery, the holy seat of the Panchen Lama, which is essentially a walled town with cobbled and twisting lanes that revolve around a magnificent monastery. Then you'll take a slightly different route back to Lhasa along Yarlung Tsangpo River, be wrapped again in the endless vistas of the Tibetan plateau.
Day 8 Finish this unforgettable tour
Highlighsts: Souvenir shopping and scenery on the way
Free time at your disposal this morning, explore the bustling markets of the Barkhor to buy some souvenirs for your families and friends. After lunch, departure transfer to see off, tour services end and Tibet welcome you back forever.
