Zaeem Mahmood's Badminton Team Reaches Quarter Finals
Purdue University's badminton team, led by Zaeem Mahmood, reached the quarterfinals of the Chicago Badminton Open in 2008
(prHWY.com) February 24, 2013 - Chicago, IL -- Purdue University student Zaeem Mahmood is proud to announce that the university's badminton team reached the quarterfinals at the Chicago Badminton Open in 2008.

"It was a very successful season for us," said Zaeem Mahmood, who also played cricket and squash at Purdue. "We took first place in a number of regional competitions, and although we didn't win the whole Chicago Badminton Open, I think we performed really well and competed against a number of teams that really pushed us to do our absolute best."

Outside of the Chicago Badminton Open, the Purdue University Badminton team won first place at the Intercollegiate Badminton Association Great Lakes Regional tournament, the American Badminton League Great Lakes Campus Regional tournament, the Intercollegiate Badminton Association Men's Championship, the Midwest Intercollegiate Badminton Tournament, and earned both first and second place spots at the Valparaiso team Tournament.

"Altogether a very solid season, I'd say," remarked Zaeem Mahmood. When he wasn't playing badminton, Zaeem Mahmood spent his time with the cricket and squash teams, improving his hand-eye coordination and getting in top shape. An athlete since youth, Zaeem Mahmood surprisingly said that he had little difficulty balancing sports and academics.

"Many of my teammates struggled to get their work in on time as a result of practice and match schedules, but I played sports all through high school and was accustomed to managing all of my related duties," said Zaeem Mahmood. "In fact, I think sports help me to manage my time better, and focus more on my studies."

Zaeem Mahmood looks forward to more successful badminton seasons, and hopes to help the team make it further than the quarterfinals at the next Chicago Badminton Open. Until then, Zaeem Mahmood will be setting his sights on the best batsman position in the Purdue University Cricket League, which is a highly coveted spot to earn.

"Out of all the sports that I play, I wouldn't say that I have a favorite," said Zaeem Mahmood. "Just whichever one I happen to be competing in at the time." Until badminton season comes back around, in that case, Zaeem Mahmood will be all cricket, but he plans on coming back to the Chicago Badminton Open with a vengeance.
